Interventional Pain Procedures
|
Interventional pain procedures usually involve an injection at the site of pain or pathology. Medications injected at these sites frequently consist of a local anesthetic and a strong anti-inflammatory steroid. At Arizona Pain Specialists we specialize in advanced interventional pain procedures because these techniques can provide remarkable reduction in pain symptoms.
The interventional procedure that most patients are familiar with is an epidural injection, which is commonly used for both neck pain and low back pain. This procedure has evolved significantly over the past decade and is now being used with much greater precision to treat acute and chronic pain syndromes.
Interventional procedures include relatively simple injections, such as trigger point injections that can be performed in the office. They also include more complicated procedures such as transforaminal epidural injections and radiofrequency ablation of spinal nerves which are performed with X-ray guidance. Interventional pain procedures have advanced dramatically as medical knowledge has increased and equipment has improved.
