Arizona Pain Specialists Co-Founder Paul Lynch is an Anesthesiologist and Interventional Pain Physician in Scottsdale, AZ. He currently works at Mayo Clinic where he treats complex pain patients with a holistic approach. He specializes in difficult cases where other pain doctors have given up. His training in surgery, anesthesia, and pain management have positioned him to provide the highest quality pain management to the phoenix area. After completing an internship in General Surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York city, Paul studied Anesthesiology at New York University where he trained extensively in regional anesthesia techniques. He then went on to finish a Pain Management fellowship at Texas Tech University. Starting as early as high school Paul has been very interested in research and this interest has continued throughout his medical career. Paul was the youngest presenter ever at the American Psychosomatic Society at the age of 18. Four years later he won the society's scholarship award. Paul co-authored a research study in 2004 on the deleterious effects of violent video games, which was the most downloaded paper in the field of psychology for the year. Paul served as the research and development director for the Advanced Medical Technology Institute in New York City and his research has been featured on many national programs including the Today Show, CNN, The Jane Pauley Show, and NPR. Paul is married to Janne Lynch, a dentist in Scottsdale, AZ. They recently celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary. They have two sons, Alexander and Austin.
Tory L. McJunkin M.D.
Tory McJunkin grew up in Scottsdale, AZ where his father has practiced as a Naturopathic physician since 1972. Tory completed his anesthesiology training at the University of Iowa and then studied interventional pain management at Texas Tech. Before becoming a physician, Tory attended Oral Roberts University where he was active in ministry, multiple medical missions trips, and the chaplain program.
Tory believes in order to achieve true healing you must treat the whole person - Body, Mind and Spirit. In addition to interventional procedures, Tory believes alternative treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Nutritional Counseling and Prayer are important for successful treatment.
Tory is happily married to Jenny - they recently celebrated their one year anniversary and the birth of their first child, Josiah.

Chance Moore, D.C.
Dr. Chance Moore earned his Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Washington. He received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the Southern California University of Health Sciences. Dr. Moore has previously practiced in multi-disciplinary settings treating various professional athletes and Olympians.Chance Moore is the only chiropractor in the state of Arizona who has been accepted as a member of NASS.The North American Spine Society (NASS) is a dynamic, multidisciplinary medical society that promotes spine research, educates spine care professionals, assists its members to provide high quality, cost-effective care for patients with spinal disorders, and informs the public about spine health issues.
Dr. Moore brings his experience of working with non-surgical, computerized spinal decompression. Decompression is a non-surgical procedure developed for the treatment of painful and disabling spinal disorders caused by disc herniations, degenerative disc disease, sciatica, and facet osteoarthritis. This scientifically proven treatment relieves pressure within the spine by achieving decompression of intervertebral discs and facet joints.
Dr. Moore is certified in Active Release Technique. ART is a soft tissue movement based technique, which is extremely effective for accurately defining the diagnosis and effectively treating repetitive strain injuries and strain/sprain type injuries. This technique is performed by licensed medical professionals who have completed the post-graduate training courses and passed rigorous written and practical examinations. ART is very effective for the treatment of carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, rotator cuff, hand conditions (numbness/tingling), sciatic nerve, sprain/strains of the neck, low back conditions, shin splints, and many foot conditions.
Dr. Moore has been practicing in Arizona since 2002. He is licensed by the Arizona Board of Chiropractic Examiners and holds the board-certified specialties of Acupuncture and Physiotherapy. He has earned his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. The CSCS® program was initiated in 1985 to identify individuals who possess the knowledge and skills to design and implement safe and effective strength and conditioning programs. Dr. Moore has had extensive training in functional capacity evaluations as well as computerized spinal strength and computerized gait analysis.Computerized gait analysis allows the doctor to see if there are any foot / gait abnormalities that might be causing your pain. Mark Strom, D.C.
Dr. Mark H. Strom earned his Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Logan College of Chiropractic located in St. Louis, Missouri.
Dr. Strom has been practicing in Scottsdale, Arizona since 1996. He is licensed by the Arizona Board of Chiropractic Examiners. Dr. Strom holds two board- certified specialties: Acupuncture and Physiotherapy. He is one of the few chiropractic physicians in the state to be trained in the practice of “Manipulation Under Anesthesia ". This advanced procedure allows patients who have chronic pain syndromes from degenerative changes and scar-tissue the chance to restore their mobility and lessen their pain levels. He has extensive training in many forms of spinal decompression / traction techniques that are designed to treat the "painful disc syndromes” of the low back and neck. Dr. Strom holds post-graduate certification in spinal / extremity injury rehabilitation.
Dr. Strom is trained in computerized gait analysis. This technology allows the doctor to see if there are any foot / gait abnormalities that might be causing your pain. If any problems are detected with your foot / gait cycle, custom-made foot orthotics and a specific rehabilitation program with the physical therapy department could be ordered.
Dr. Strom has active membership in the American Chiropractic Association, American Academy of Spine Physicians and American Academy of Pain Management, where he is planning to pursue his Ph.D. in Pain Management.
Dr. Strom has been an instructor for Southern California Health Sciences University in Whittier, California and Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona.
Lisa Pavese MSN, FNP
Lisa Pavese, an Arizona native, began her healthcare career in the exciting City of San Francisco. She graduated at the top of her class in 2005 from a nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialist program at the University of San Francisco, with an academic emphasis on wound care management and the childhood obesity epidemic.
As an RN, Lisa worked with critically ill patients at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in San Francisco, caring primarily for patients who had undergone open heart surgery, where pain management is the cornerstone of care. As a nurse practitioner, Lisa had the opportunity to work at San Francisco’s premier outpatient substance abuse and drug detoxification clinic, the Haight Ashbury Free Clinic, which is one of the first clinics in the Country to integrate addiction medicine, primary, and psychiatric care. After eight years in California, Lisa’s career path finally led her back home to Arizona, where she is thrilled to be working with the Arizona Pain Specialists.
Nicole Berardoni M.D.
Nicole was born and raised in Scottsdale, Arizona where she completed her undergraduate degrees of Microbiology/ Immunology and Spanish at Arizona State University. She then went to medical school at Ross University and has since returned to the valley to continue her medical education. Nicole began working at Arizona Pain Specialists while completing her medical school rotations at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Scottsdale, AZ. Upon graduating medical school she has taken on the role as the Research Coordinator, Medical/ Surgical assistant, as well as writing for the Pain Textbook on our website. Nicole will continue to have an active role in the research and development associated with Arizona Pain Specialists as she continues on through her Radiology Residency Program at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ.
Trish Turrentine
Trish Turrentine joined the Arizona Pain Specialists in June, 2004 originally as an Administrative Assistant. Since that time she has been instrumental in upgrading and modernizing the operations of the Arizona Pain Specialists, including the Office Policy Manual, employee benefits, employee training and, most recently, has supervised our transition to an electronic medical record and paperless patient charts.
